Kartini Day

Kartini Day. There is a tribute to the expression of the struggle of women, a symbol of gender equality, women's emancipation. Kartini there as a hero, not by violence, but still radical, on behalf of the truth of his own beliefs.

Several decades after his death, the woman feels the movement and extraordinary impact. At present, seeing the women are in leadership positions is not so taboo anymore, although the oriental custom of this nation have also not entirely extinct, especially the culture of patriarchy.

Kartini Day, is celebrated in different regions by using traditional dresses regions in Indonesia. For some reason, too, is there any relation between traditional dresses and struggle R. A. Kartini's own.

An interesting phenomenon I heard from my father. At an elementary school in East Surabaya, made such a celebration as well. That day, all the students wearing the first class. Outgoing nature of the father who allowed him to close with the children there. He asked in some children, "Well, yes that good clothes ..." "It's from the Sunda ya?", As he asked one of a child. The child replied: "Yes, om ..."

Similar question was given to some children. Up to a child, "Wow, this is wonderful, her clothes from Jogja ya?" With certainty, the boy replied, "lhoo, is not it! Atom is from the Market! Aja delicious! "Genesis of strange and funny, but true. Just happened.

So what the real meaning of Kartini Day? Is her dress? Sometimes we forget the meaning of the things that we are commemorating. Yet this state can be born and continue to grow due to the historic momentum.

At least, this momentum could make sense of our existing and growing nationalism, to refresh our spirit to build our nation, and especially our beloved city, and not give up the predicament it is today.
